When a redirect makes sense
A redirect works when the original appraisal is recent and the property and market have not changed. It saves the borrower a second inspection and is usually simpler and cheaper than a new appraisal.
When a new appraisal is needed
If the original report is too old for the new lender, the original appraiser is not on the lender’s approved list, or the lender simply requires its own order, a new appraisal is needed.
Order a lender redirect through AppraisalDesk
Upload the original report and tell us the new lender’s name and requirements. We check with the original appraiser where possible, and if a redirect is not allowed we can arrange a new appraisal with a qualified local appraiser.
- See the price before you place the order
- Your order is assigned to a qualified local appraiser
- Real-time updates by text and email, and online order tracking
- The borrower can pay online by secure link
- Download the report online and message the appraiser
Frequently asked questions
Can an appraisal be transferred to another lender?
Not usually as is. A lender redirect is a new report addressed to the new lender, and only the original appraiser can prepare it, if the lender’s policy allows.
How much does a lender redirect cost?
Usually less than a new appraisal, since there is no new inspection. You see the price before you order.
Why won’t my new lender accept my old appraisal?
Lenders rely on reports prepared for them, by appraisers they approve. A report addressed to another lender may not meet their requirements.
Can any appraisal be redirected?
No. It depends on the original appraiser, the age of the report and the new lender’s rules.
